Our Family, Serving Yours Since 2008

Plumbing has long been a major part of TJ Knatcal’s life. After working as a plumber for over eight years, he founded TJK Plumbing, Inc. in 2008 to provide great service at prices that homeowners could afford.
While there are plenty of other Minnesota plumbing companies to choose from, TJ and his growing staff set themselves apart by focusing on the quality of service—both in the work completed and in the experience itself. Specializing in residential service work, TJ truly enjoys meeting and getting to know his customers in the Maple Grove and Minneapolis area.

More Than Just Plumbing

TJ started TJK Plumbing after years in the trade, but what really sets the business apart today is the people behind it. TJK has built a tight-knit team of skilled plumbers and drain technicians who treat every job like they’re working in a friend’s home. From the way they explain the work to how they clean up when they’re done, the focus is always on quality, respect, and helping homeowners in Maple Grove, Minneapolis, and the surrounding communities feel comfortable and cared for.

Over the years, that commitment has earned TJK Plumbing multiple service awards and plenty of word-of-mouth referrals, but the heart of the business is still family and community. You’ll see TJK featured on local home improvement shows and in the news from time to time, and you can always find them at the Maple Grove Days Business Expo, handing out free toilet paper and catching up with customers. It’s more than plumbing—it’s being a trusted part of the neighborhood.

Helpful FAQs

So… what does a plumber actually do?

Plumbers do a lot of things: We repair your pipes so they can keep carrying water and gas to your home, and – just as important – carry waste away from your home or business. We will also install plumbing fixtures like bathtubs, sinks, showers, and toilets, as well as kitchen and utility appliances like dishwashers and washing machines.

We are also very creative. We assemble, install, and repair your pipes, pipe fittings, and heating, water, and drainage system fixtures. We have learned all the specifications and plumbing codes so you don’t have to.

Here a few examples of things a plumber can help you with:

  • Install pipe assemblies, fittings, and valves
  • Install fixtures
  • Locate and fix leaks from pipes and sinks
  • Fix or replace broken pipes and open clogged drains.

Do I need to worry about a leaky faucet?

Yes! Don’t ignore it. A leaky faucet, or any common repair problem, might seem insignificant, but it should be addressed immediately to prevent it from becoming very significant down the road. Emergencies later on will cost you way more money and time, and can cause serious, sometimes permanent, damage to your home and fixtures.

Is there a way to check if I have a leak?

There is. And it is pretty easy. Simply record the level of your water meter, then don’t use any water for at least a few hours. Then check the meter again. To avoid any interference, check the meter after everyone is in bed at night, then check again in the morning. If the level has changed, you probably have a leak. But don’t worry! Get in touch and we’ll come fix it for you.

Why do my pipes rattle and make noise all the time?

It could be a ghost. But, before you call Ghostbusters, we should probably check to see if your water lines are properly secured. If they aren’t, they might be rubbing up against your floor joists. Dripping faucets or worn-out shutoff valves may be causing the issue. We can ensure your pipes are properly secured, and install pipe hangers as needed between pipes and joists so that you won’t have to wonder if your house is haunted.

What should I do if there is a whistling sound coming from my pipes?

The culprit is usually a toilet fill valve or a shutoff valve that is slowly leaking. That is where the whistling comes from. To find which toilet is leaking, remove the lid and adjust the fill valve mechanism until it stops. Once you know which one it is, repair or replace the fill valve and… voila.

Are there different kinds of plumbing services?

Yes. In fact, there are 4 different types of plumbers: Commercial plumbers, Residential plumbers, New Construction plumbers, and Service and Repair plumbers. We are a residential plumbing service. While we don’t like to toot our own horn, this means we are responsible for all the residential services for your home – water and drain lines, water heaters, gas hookups, bathroom and kitchen remodels, and every pipe and fixture you have.

Where does the name “plumber” come from?

Ours is an ancient and noble profession. The word “plumber” was actually first used during the days of the Roman Empire. The Latin word for lead is plumbum, and Roman roofs used lead in conduits and drain pipes (many were covered entirely in lead). Lead was commonly used for piping and making baths as well. The person the ancient Romans would call to install or fix these things? That’s right – a plumber.
